With the help of business partnerships like the Great Western Parks & Playground and the Children's Play structures, WRPA has been able to provide scholarships to provide extended education in the field of Recreation and Parks. There are also two scholarships that are provided by the WRPA, both in memory of former WRPA professionals. The Scott Sessions and Paul Petzoldt Memorial Scholarships are funded by the WRPA through the silent auction held each year at the State Conference. The Scott
Sessions Memorial Scholarship was established in 1994, and the Paul Petzoldt Memorial Scholarship in 1999.
There have been many outstanding parks and recreation professionals who have earned awards from and as a member of the WRPA. Paul Westedt was the recipient of the first WRPA Fellow Award in 1975. In 1984, Dan Barks became the first WRPA professional to receive the NRPA Midwest Fellow Award. Howard Dunbar was the first recipient of the WRPA Citation Individual Award, an honor he received in 1980. Janet Jahn was the first WRPA member to receive the NRPA Midwest Citation Individual Award in 1985. In 1997, Sheridan Athletic Association became the first to receive the WRPA Citation Organization Award.
